Dramatic Fall in Recorded Crime at Halebank Industrial Estate
An innovative partnership approach to the delivery of a variety of services on Halebank Industrial Estate has contributed to a dramatic reduction in recorded crime.
In its first year, the Halebank Business Improvement District (BID) has contributed to a 65.5% reduction in crime when compared to the crime figures for 2007/08 and in 2006/07.
Since its inception, the Halebank BID has invested in the expansion of the estate-wide CCTV system and Smartwater DNA property marking, which has been made available to every business on the estate. The estate also benefits from mobile patrols and companies can enrol for key holding and alarm/incident response services, provided through the BID by Select Security.
The success of the BID programme has also been built upon a strong partnership between Cheshire Police, Select Security, Halton Borough Council and the Halebank businesses themselves.
Over the last twelve months burglaries have dropped by 75%. The reduction can be, in part, attributed to the alarm response service, SmartWater and the CCTV system. Criminal damage to buildings, often an indicator of attempted burglaries, remained at zero reported crimes.
Phil Buckley, Crime Reduction Advisor, commented that “these reductions in crime are due to the commitment of the Police and businesses working together, as well as the wider range of steps put into place to prevent and reduce crime on Halebank Industrial Estate.”
Sharon Case, NPU Inspector, Widnes said “this is a fantastic result and shows the determination of the Police and business partnerships to reduce crime in the Halebank area.”
Dave Farrell, Chairperson of the Halebank BID, said “the crime figures are very encouraging and demonstrate that the BID security services together with the support from the Police are having a positive impact. However, we must remain vigilant and remember to report any incidents to the Police.”
In the event that an incident, companies should notify Cheshire Police as soon as practicable by telephoning 0845 458 0000. If the offenders are believed to be still in the area or the incident is believed to be an emergency, please dial 999.
