The Astmoor BID Programme Steps Up Security

The Astmoor Industrial Estate Business Improvement District (BID) has taken the next step towards the eradication of crime on the estate with the purchase of a dedicated mobile CCTV system.

This overt system has been installed within a patrol vehicle operated by Select Security for the express purposes of deterring crime on the estate, protecting businesses, enhancing public safety and obtaining evidence.

The vehicle will be used for both mobile patrols and in response to specific incidents, for example alarm activations. The system will allow incidents and instances of anti-social behaviour to be recorded for evidential purposes

The new mobile CCTV system will complement the existing infrastructure introduced by the BID programme and services such as mobile patrols, key holding and alarm response.

The system features a digital recorder with an 80 Gb removable hard drive, a low light, high resolution, fully automated camera with a 10 x optical zoom and a GPS receiver to provided accurate time and date information

The system has been designed specifically for operation in a mobile environment and the whole system is ‘e’ marked in accordance with EU legislation and is Home Office approved for operation in Police vehicles.

John Gummery, Chair of the Astmoor BID, said “The ability to have mobile CCTV at our disposal is another tool in our efforts to deter criminal activity and anti social behaviour from Astmoor.  When taken together with the raft of other security measures implemented by the BID programme over the last twelve months, this new development will contribute towards the realisation of one of the key objectives of the project, that is to design crime out of the estate and thereby improve the working environment and prosperity of all the businesses on Astmoor”.
